She was born in 1949. She began her career as a Russian-language broadcaster and writer for Voice of America, U.S.S.R. Division. She was a Benton Fellow in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Chicago and studied at Leningrad State University, U.S.S.R. She holds a B.A. in Russian Language and Literature from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.〔(Anchor reporter )〕 After 30 years at CNN, she left in 2013, but remains a foreign affairs correspondent.
